Pat Tuppen

The Club is very saddened to hear of the passing of former player Patrick Tuppen.

Pat played for West Chiltington Cricket Club in matches spanning five decades, taking close to 600 wickets in some 300+ matches (at least) and this is just what we have on record.

He became a member of the Club in the 50s at which stage he was an early order batsman and a very good off spin bowler but later he went on to become a swing bowler. He had a great side on action and had the great knack swinging the ball away late. Peter Jones reflects that a very high proportion of the wickets he took were caught behind either by the wicket-keeper or in the slip cordon.

In 1967 Peter succeeded him as Captain and Pat became team secretary, a role he continued in until 1976.

As well as his contributions as a player and team secretary, he also had a great sense of humour. It would be no exaggeration to say that but for the effort of him and a few others the Club would not have survived and look at it now. A true club legend in every sense of the word.

Our thoughts are with his family, his wife Brenda, his children Mark, Lorna and Laurence, and friends at this time.
