U16s win the SJCF Bowl

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

During the week we played four games against Brighton & Hove, Horsham, Cuckfield and Stirlands which resulted in four victories all by large margins with us achieving 159 points from a maximum 160, leaving us top of the group table (it's ordered on average points per game) and setting up a final versus Middleton who finished second.

Final at Arundel Castle

On arriving at the ground it was a picture set in beautiful surroundings, groundsmen attending to the pitch on their mowers, the pitch was like a freshly laid bouncy carpet, absolutely superb and the sun was shining with so great support which increased throughout the day. Adam won the toss and elected to bat.

As so often Adam & Charlie got us off to a great start, slowly building their innings, once they had their eye in they soon accelerated, Charlie passing 50 and looked well set for another large score but unfortunately was unluckily run out on 54, an opening partnership of 98.

Two quick wickets followed in the loss of Benji and Will at half way after 20 overs we were 108-3.

Adam was next to go making a very useful 47 being stumped looking to push the score on, a steady partnership followed between Ben and Jack both then being bowled in a couple of overs 174-5.

Jacob & Dylan added some useful runs which left Tom S and Thomas DC not outs. Ray being our last man dnb.

194-8 after 40 overs

During the interval we were generally happy with our score, runs on the board results in scoreboard pressure but we knew we had to field superbly well on such a large pitch. Tom opening the bowling took a wicket with his 3rd delivery bowling their opening batsman out for 0.

A partnership following of 52 when Ben bowled their very dangerous number three batsmen soon followed by Benji taking a caugh-and-bowled removing the other opener, he soon had another out bowled 76-4.

Enter Charlie, causing panic amongst their batsmen taking regular wickets and finished with figurers of 4-23, Tom had another caught behind and Benji with a run-out.

142 all out

The fielding was outstanding which certainly helped in our victory, a fantastic day had by all.

Every player who made themselves available during the week and the final have all contributed in one way or another, a great team effort, well done.
